Amigurumi Base Body—What Else Can You Do With It?

Hi everyone,
I have a question. When a pattern says that this is just the base body for an amigurumi, what’s still missing, or what can you do with the amigurumi?
It would be great if you could give me some info on this. Thanks.

Hey there... I have two eBooks where I use a basic body. Many amigurumis are made from this body. In other words, the head and torso (belly) are the same. The arms, eyes, legs, etc. are different. I don’t know how other designers handle this. Hope this helps a little. Best regards, Nicole

I’m not entirely sure about this either: is the basic body of an amigurumi suitable for playing with on its own, or are the additions absolutely necessary?

So does that mean you need at least two patterns to crochet an amigurumi? Personally, I’d prefer patterns where everything is included in one. But with the approach of having the base body in one pattern and the details in other patterns, you naturally have more variety and can customize it.
Still, the whole thing is pretty complicated.

I can't really answer that in general, because every designer handles it differently.

I have a smaller pattern where the base body is already enough to make a complete amigurumi figure (1 ebook with everything included for 1 amigurumi figure), and you can also buy add-ons a0 (1 extra ebook per add-on) to design more amigurumis using the base body.

Then I have a very large pattern, which I split into several small ebooks because customer questions showed that they preferred several small ebooks to 1 large one because they use different devices with different storage capacities.

So, as I said, you can't generalize, but I do pay some attention to the size and split it into several ebooks if I see that the ebooks would otherwise get too large.
