I’m missing the yarn specifications

Hi,

I keep seeing great knitting and crochet patterns here, but they never specify which yarn to use. I only buy patterns that include this information now, because I have sooo much yarn at home and I just like to know in advance... Maybe it would be a good idea to include that information?

Best regards, Einschie

Hi Einschie, welcome to our forum and portal.
Thanks for your suggestion. Some patterns do list the required yarn. If it’s not listed, you can contact the respective provider via the comment section to get more information.
I’ll briefly show you with a few images how to find this information if it’s not listed.
If the images appear too small on your screen, just click directly on the image, and it will enlarge.

First, go directly to the product page for the pattern you’re interested in.

Just click directly on the image of the pattern you’re interested in, and you’ll be taken to the product page for that pattern.
Then follow the steps shown in the graphic below.

So if the pattern doesn’t specify which yarn to use, you can contact the seller via the comment section and ask your question.
Sellers usually respond pretty quickly.

If you’d rather not use the comment section—which is publicly visible—you can also send a PM (private message) to the seller, and here’s how:

Click on the designer’s name to go to their main page, where you can send them a message.

I’ve used the blue dolphin as an example here, but this works the same way with any other pattern or seller.

I’ll still reach out to the sellers again, though, to make sure the yarn details are included directly in the product description.
I wish you the best of luck, and of course, you can always ask in the forum if you have a question about a pattern.
Best regards, Mod Josefa

Hi Einschie,
I’ll take note of your suggestion, since I can totally understand where you’re coming from. Especially people who have a stash of yarn (and what knitter or crocheter doesn’t?) are more likely to choose a pattern if they already have the right yarn at home and can get started right away.
Best regards
Petra

Yes, and then you wouldn’t always have to ask separately ;-)

That’s a very good suggestion; I’ll add that to my patterns bit by bit too :)

Big hugs
Best regards,
Petra

Hello Einschie,

I also think the yarn details (or knitting needle sizes) are always really important.

Even when I’m looking at patterns for myself, the first thing I check for is the yarn or fabric details and any other supplies I’ll need. After all, you don’t want to have to keep buying new things all the time.

I always try to be as precise as possible with the yardage, needle size, etc., so that people can use a similar yarn they might already have at home.
With one pattern, I was asked very often where the yarn I mentioned could be bought. Now, whenever I use that yarn, I even include a link to the source, since it seems to be hard to find.

Best wishes

nici
