Kids’ hats with “beard protection” and a mouth opening included

Hi everyone,
I saw a hat on my Facebook newsfeed—for kids. As far as I can tell, the hat itself was pretty standard. But at the bottom, it had a sort of “half-visor” or “beard warmer” with a cutout for breathing. Of course, kids don’t have beards ;) I thought it was kind of cute, but I just figured that if you’re going to make this kind of face warmer, it would make more sense if it went higher up and didn’t just cover the beard area.
Do you guys know of these hats with chin guards, or have you seen them somewhere? Is it just a fashion gimmick, or does it actually keep you warm?

Personally, I’d hope that the wool used for the “chin guard” isn’t itchy, because itchy wool right in the middle of your face—that’s just not okay. :)

I don’t really like the design that much

I made something like this for my husband just for fun—I can’t say if it really keeps him warm, though, since he hasn’t tested it yet ;-)

Yeah, I know those bearded hats too, and they’re definitely not my thing.

I made a knight’s helmet beanie and wrote the pattern for it.
My husband loves it when he has to go outside in the winter—he just has to pull down the visor to protect his mouth area.
I used 100% merino wool for it… it’s nice and soft against the skin!

The knight’s helmet is great—does it actually make it hard to breathe when your nose and mouth are covered?

I’m afraid I’ll have to crochet a knight’s helmet now, too—my little one got a sword and shield from St. Nicholas :-)
