Crocheting in rounds

Hello, dear crochet experts,

I have two problems when crocheting in rounds: 
1. a seamless color change when crocheting in spiral rounds
2. when I join the rounds with a slip stitch,
    the stitches multiply in a mysterious but unwanted way. 
    What am I doing wrong? And how do you make a seamless color
    change?

Hmm, spiral rounds—do you mean rounds that aren’t closed with a slip stitch? And a color transition using a variegated yarn? Unfortunately, that’s hard to control because the colors in the yarn are predetermined.
As for the rounds closed with a slip stitch, if you look at your crochet piece, can you figure out where you have too many stitches? Are you perhaps crocheting an extra stitch into the slip stitch of the previous round? That’s just a shot in the dark.
I’ll follow along here for tips on the color transition too—maybe someone has a trick I never would have thought of myself.

Hi Christina,
I end the round for a color change by inserting the new yarn into the second-to-last stitch and then continuing to crochet the rounds with the new color. This means you have to count the stitches from the beginning of the round.
As for the slip stitches:
pick up the yarn and immediately pull it through both stitches on the hook.
That works every time; the stated number of stitches comes out right.
Maybe this helps you a little bit.

It seems I misunderstood the bit about the color change—I assumed you meant gradient yarn, but of course a color change makes more sense. Also, I’m absolutely mortified by my typos above :-)
