Hi everyone,
I’m currently knitting a baby bodysuit and don’t quite understand the pattern:
Why are 4 new stitches cast on starting from the point where you stop knitting the sleeves and let them rest while knitting the body in the round?
I’ve continued
knitting the front and back pieces all the way down to the crotch, and I have exactly those 4 extra stitches.

I’d be very grateful if someone could help me with this,

mutter007

Hi Kaffeepause,
welcome to our site.
If you tell me the name of the author, I can ask for help on your behalf. That’s simply part of it with patterns here on crazypatterns. .

Hello,

The stitches are cast on for that so the fit will be better later.

Best regards

Oh, that was a quick response.
I got the pattern from Caros Fummeley.

Thank you so much for your help.

Best regards,
Kaffepause

@Kaffeepause,
I messaged the author by PM and asked for help.
I'm sure she'll get in touch soon.
Good luck.

Dear Michaela,
thank you so much for your reply!

What I don’t understand is what to do with these stitches.
I added these stitches to the front and back pieces, and it wasn’t until I got to the leg decreases that I realized I had 4 extra stitches on the needle.
How are these 4 newly cast-on stitches handled
starting from the armhole?

Best regards,

Kaffepause
P.S.: You have such wonderful patterns for shawls!

Dear Kaffeepause,
Thank you so much for your kind compliment.

Unfortunately, I can’t answer that question—it gets too technical, and I’m not familiar with the pattern.
But I’m sure the author will get back to you soon; Josefa has already written to her.

Best regards, Michaela

Dear kaffeepause,
Unfortunately, I’m currently abroad and only just listened to your message on my voicemail (I tried calling you back).
The reason for the new stitches has already been mentioned here (thanks!)—it simply improves the fit under the arms. The four stitches you increase under each arm won’t be worked later when making the flaps. That means they aren’t used for the turning stitches. Maybe that’s why you were confused? The pattern has actually been thoroughly tested, and the stitch counts are correct. If you work exactly row by row, everything should work out in the end. If it’s still not working out or if anything is unclear, feel free to send me a direct message, and I’ll try to explain it another way.
I hope you enjoy the result and the pattern!
Best regards, Caro (Caros Fummeley)

I meant “under each armpit,” not under each “stitch.”

Hi Caro,
I’d like to try one more time to ask you how I should handle these 4 stitches.
Do I knit them into the body, or do I leave them on hold at the armholes?
What do I do with them?????????

Best regards, and hoping to finally get a clear answer,

Kaffeepause

Just so we’re on the same page: We’re talking about Round 2, right?
For the sleeves, you simply leave the mentioned 28 stitches on hold. The 4 stitches you cast on are treated like all the other stitches starting in Round 3 and are knitted along as usual.

Dear Caro,
well, now I finally understand it and have started knitting again right away.
Thanks again for your help -----until the next pattern------,

Kaffeepause
