Please help me again :(

So, I guess I’m just being really clueless :(
My pattern: 2 sc together, 12 sc, 8 hdc, 2 hdc together, 12 hdc, 8 sc = 42 sts
but that’s actually 44 sts, right??? Oh, I see—so that probably means to crochet 2 sc together, meaning to crochet them together just once and not twice?

if you have two stitches that you crochet together, that results in just one stitch. That’s why the 42 makes sense:
2 sc together = 1 stitch + 12 sc + 8 hdc + 2 hdc together = 1 stitch + 12 hdc + 8 sc = 42 stitches
As I understand it, you simply take the two stitches in question and make a new stitch out of them.
