Crafts with kids or patterns suitable for kids

Hi everyone!
If you have kids who have moved past the stage of crocheting chains of chain stitches—or who have mastered the basics of crocheting—would it make sense to hand them a pattern, or would that be too difficult?
Can you generally recommend all the crochet patterns here in the shop at Crazypatterns—the ones that say they’re suitable for beginners—for kids to try crocheting on their own?

I don’t have kids of my own, so I’m not very familiar with this topic, but I just wanted to know how you all handle it. After all, there are plenty of parents with kids here. I’d just be curious to know if your kids are even interested in crafts—not just in handmade items that Mom or Dad made, but in making things themselves.

It’s been a while since I was in school and took craft classes, so I’ve completely lost touch with that world.
I’d love it if anyone would share their thoughts on this.

Above, I only mentioned crocheting, but this also applies to knitting, sewing, crafts, embroidery, and all the other types of handicrafts out there.
Although I could imagine that crocheting might be a good place to start for kids—after all, you only need one crochet hook instead of multiple needles. And sewing needles, for example, unlike crochet hooks, also pose a greater risk of injury. Personally, I’d be very skeptical about letting kids use a sewing machine, but then again, I’m no expert in this area. What are your thoughts on sewing needles and sewing machines in children’s hands? At what age would you allow it, or is there no one-size-fits-all answer to this?

I learned to crochet when I was 4, and to knit and embroider when I was 6 or 7, so I can’t even remember if it was difficult for me. But I can’t imagine it was, because I was always glued to my needles and yarn, and I took my crochet supplies with me everywhere :-) There’s one thing I do remember clearly, though: I always sat next to my mom while learning, and she showed us everything. It was the same with crafts—my dad taught us in his little basement workshop, and we were able to tinker around there on our own. I think that’s still the best way for kids to learn anything related to crafts.

I learned it in school and from my mom, and I’ve never stopped.
I taught my nieces—who were 4 and 6 at the time—how to crochet while on vacation. We started with a blanket and a skirt for their dolls. They had a lot of fun with it.

I do think that one or two patterns are suitable for kids—simple bags, for example. From my own patterns, I could recommend these for kids: Frosch Anton, Gespenst XXL, and Schnecke style Dir eine

My sister, who’s now 8 years old, crocheted these 3 patterns herself and had no trouble at all.
