Shoes, Ballet Flats, Socks: The Difference

Hi, what’s the difference between shoes, ballet flats, and socks? I can tell the difference between socks and shoes, but what are ballet flats then?

Ballerinas are actually very flat shoes with a relatively wide opening at the front. The terms sometimes get mixed up with “socks” and “shoes.” http://style-fashionblog.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/myfabs-ballerina.jpg Shoes and socks go higher up the instep and are also warmer.

To put it very simply:
Ballerinas are flat shoes with a strap across the forefoot.
Socks don’t have a specially shaped (shoe) sole and have a leg.
Shoes have a sole and an upper that’s often made separately (though there are also tubular shoes—in which case the sole and upper are made together)
Generally speaking, I’d say that shoes are usually made a bit more compactly than socks and therefore also have a thicker sole.
