Easter in Latvia

Hi CP Team,
I’d be interested to know how Easter is celebrated in Latvia. Do you also have Good Friday and Easter Monday off? Are there any Easter traditions?

Alexander says that Easter is celebrated in Latvia, too. Monday and Friday are days off.
I'm not in Latvia, but in southern Germany, but I have the holiday off too. :-)

I find Easter especially beautiful in southern Germany, particularly in Bavaria.
I’d love to attend a Stations of the Cross service sometime. However, I’d have to go alone—my husband unfortunately has absolutely no interest in that.

of course—there are many Stations of the Cross here; the ones in the mountains, in particular, are beautifully situated and are also great for short, easy hikes. The Stations of the Cross are usually prayed on Good Friday—the time can be obtained from the respective parish offices.

My favorite is the Birkenstein pilgrimage site in Fischbachau . There’s a scenic hiking trail from Café Winklstüberl (large parking lot)—about a 45-minute easy walk over to Birkenstein . Along the way is the cozy Schwaigeralm (about 10 minutes from Winklstüberl) and a Kneipp pool in the forest.

Also beautiful are

• the Ölberg Chapel in Sachrang
• the Maria Eck pilgrimage site in Siegsdorf
• Schwarzlack Pilgrimage Church in Brannenburg (about a 30-minute walk from the town center on a wide hiking trail)

Well, you’re preaching to the choir here.
My parents and I used to call Maria Eck “Mary’s Corner.” ;-)

For years, we spent our vacations in Siegsdorf, 3 km away, and walked up to Maria Eck countless times. I’m also familiar

with Sachrang, and of course the little church on the Mount of Olives, as well as the story of Müllner Peter (I’ve seen the film adaptation several times too).

Brannenburg is the only place I don’t know at the moment.
But when it comes to everything around the Siegsdorf area, you can’t tell me anything new. ;-)

I envy you for being able to live where others go on vacation....

And from my shop, I can walk up to the Seiseralm in about 30 minutes and then another 20 minutes or so to the Chapel of the Last Supper—also a Way of the Cross. Do you know that too?
