Silk yarn for crocheting and knitting

I heard for the first time today that there are actually silk yarns for crocheting and knitting.
I can’t even imagine that right now. Does this yarn still have a good “grip” when crocheting and knitting, or does it slip through your fingers?
Does anyone have experience with this and want to tell me about it?

Silk yarn is really more for embroidery and less for crocheting or knitting. At least that’s what I learned in needlework class. But that was many years ago.

Oh yes, there are actually a lot of beautiful silk yarns available now for knitting or crocheting. They come either as pure silk or as blends with other yarns, such as baby alpaca. It’s naturally smoother than cotton, but still has a good grip. I’ve knitted many shawls out of silk and love this material.

I’d like to try silk yarn, too.

Should you also dampen silk yarn when crocheting or knitting?

I had no idea that ombré (as opposed to solid or single-color) also exists for yarn and yarn colors. I’d only known the word in connection with the ombré hair trend.
