Sewing on safety eyes

I need your help. Does anyone know how to work with these plastic eyes for crochet figures that have a plastic pin with a hole at the end? How do I sew them on? Crochet pieces aren’t very thick,
after all. I know how to handle the usual safety eyes with their plastic or metal counterparts, but with these others, I’m not sure how to sew them on tightly. Thanks for any tips.

I can’t quite picture exactly what you mean right now, but I’m guessing you want to give an amigurumi a face ;-) I use bear eyes with eyelets. That’s probably what you’re trying to work with now. And it’s really simple :-) Use a long thread and a blunt needle. Insert the needle exactly in the center of a stitch at the back of the head. Pull the thread through the head and out at the eye. Then through the eyelet on the eye... or the plastic pin with a hole... insert the needle into the stitch next to the one you just came out of. Pull it through the head and back out at the same spot on the back of the head. Pull the thread tight until the eye sits as deep in the head as you like. Tie a knot in the thread, hide it inside the head, and you’re done. Warning!!!! It’s important to make sure you come out at exactly the same spot on the back of the head. There mustn’t be any strand in between. Otherwise, you’ll get dents on the back of the head. Phew! I hope I was able to explain it reasonably clearly ;-)

Oops ;-) If you don’t want the eye to slip inward, just insert the needle back into the same stitch where you came out. But that only works if the eye is bigger than the stitches. A small eye on a double crochet will slip inward sooner or later.

@Wolligrumumi
Great explanation! I get it now! ... Thank you so much :-D

Now maybe I’ll dare to try using these strange eyes with holes. Because I have to admit, those are usually the prettier eyes—they often shine brighter than the other safety eyes with the plastic piece.

Thank you, Wolligurumi. Great explanation—even for me. It makes sense that you have to stitch in at the back of the head; that gives the eyes more stability. I’ll give that a try. I’d always just tried sewing them on from the front, but that obviously won’t hold.

You explained it really well, Wolligurumi—now I finally know how they work, hehehe
