Tips for knitting socks (heels)

I can more or less manage knitting “straight” or knitting a tube
but the heels and toes of socks are a real problem for me.
Do you have any tricks or tips on the best way to do it?
I do have a somewhat useful pattern, but it still makes me despair.

Thanks for the tips on knitting socks—I’d rather just buy mine. Working on heels and toes isn’t really my thing. And I prefer cotton socks to wool ones. But maybe that’ll change again in the winter.
