You can make a lot—and I mean a lot—of things for a baby yourself. If only you had enough time...
Two examples: All three of our children lay in a bassinet that we had bought secondhand. The future grandmother and great-grandmother sewed a cover for it together. That was probably the most special gift for our first child...
For my youngest brother (13 years younger than me), I knitted a little jacket. My own children wore it later, too :-)

I crocheted my first music box for my grandchildren. The moms got to choose the melody. For a change, it wasn’t the usual “Schlaf Kindlein schlaf”...

If I’d been this in love with crafts 10 years ago, I probably would’ve crocheted almost everything for my little ray of sunshine myself.
From baby blankets to shoes, jackets, pants, hats, gloves… oh, I could go on forever.

A neighbor of my mom’s used to pass knitted items over the garden fence for me. It was well-intentioned, but from my perspective today, the yarn was really lousy—and it was always that sky blue. I hated it soooo much.

Now there’s such great yarn in such awesome colors. And you’ll never find the same garment again. Well, if that isn’t a reason to start crafting…

Back then, I would have loved to crochet something for my son as a companion. Something that would always remind him of me and that he’d never put down. Unfortunately, he’s too old now and can’t make up his mind. One day this, the next day that... What a shame, what a shame... If only I’d started at least eight years earlier.
