Many people are on vacation between the holidays, and what do people love to do most on vacation? That’s right—tackle new craft projects. Here you’ll find lovely patterns that you can follow without having to buy any extra materials.

: Please share simple, beginner-friendly patterns here that can be easily made using leftover yarn, fabric scraps, and paper (scraps). Ideally, buyers should be able to follow the patterns without having to buy a lot of materials beforehand. The knitting pattern for the Sador Loop is perfect for using up leftover yarn.

The loop is knitted in the round and almost entirely in knit stitches, making it super easy for beginners to follow.

You’ll need:

• approx. 100–200 g of yarn (up to DK weight) 
• 2 circular needles, 80 or 100 cm long, with at least half a needle size difference (for lace yarn, I recommend sizes 3 and 3.5) 
• Tape measure 
• Digital kitchen scale or other precision scale 
• Stitch markers
  

There is no set number of stitches for this loop. You’ll need to work a gauge to calculate the required number of stitches.
The pattern is 5 pages long and includes many examples of how to use different yarns. It has been tested and checked for errors.

Scraps of cardstock, a few days off, and several upcoming occasions for small gifts and little tokens: Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day… This is the perfect situation for this craft project:
 


Each of these 10 boxes (with edge lengths between 3 and 8 cm) requires no more than one sheet of A4 cardstock. They fold flat (making them very space-efficient to store) and are even suitable for craft beginners.

  
For all cat fans and dog lovers. A cute way to use up leftover yarn. As a keychain or bag charm. 
10–20 g of leftover wool/yarn, the matching crochet hook (2–3), some stuffing, and, if you like, two small eyes if they aren’t to be embroidered. Chain stitches, single crochet, increases and decreases. Then the charm is practically finished :-) Anyone who has crocheted occasionally will enjoy making the cat and/or the dog.

The “Lasbelin” knitted cowl is perfect for using up leftover yarn.

This cozy neckwarmer is a great companion on cold days; thanks to its special shape, it drapes easily around the neck and stays securely in place.

You can knit this cowl with many different types of yarn—from sock yarn to DK weight or even thicker yarn—and it looks fantastic no matter what you use. The pattern is designed for DK-weight yarn. For other weights, the yarn requirement must be adjusted accordingly.

You’ll need approximately 400–420 meters of yarn with a yardage of 200 m/100 gr, as well as a small amount of leftover yarn for the provisional cast-on. Approximately 20–25 grams are needed to knit the border. If you’d like to knit the cowl in different colors, you’ll need to calculate about 85 grams (at 200 m per 100 gr) of yarn for the main pattern and about 76 grams (200 m per 100 gr) for the border pattern, of which approximately 20–25 grams is for working the border.

What could be nicer than making yourself comfortable on the couch on a Sunday afternoon with a small craft project? It shouldn’t be complicated, and you should be able to watch TV at the same time. And every vacation suitcase simply needs a craft project in it. Who knows whether there will be a yarn shop at your vacation destination? No, you have to plan ahead and take something suitable with you. 

For that, I have the ideal projects: doll clothes. If you have children or grandchildren who have little dolls of this kind, then you can knit and crochet outfits for them to your heart’s content. The patterns include short and long dresses, corsages, various hats, and bags. And each model needs only a very small amount of yarn and the appropriate crochet hooks and/or knitting needles.
