Where are you from?

Dear users and authors,
where do you each live? If you’d rather not give an exact location, you can also write down a general area.

I’m from Wolfsburg, and (despite the VW scandal) I have no problem saying so. ;-)

Where I’m from, there’s “Heidi cheese,” and there was a “Heidi film with Klara from Frankfurt,” as well as “Alpöhi and Peter the Goatherd.” A beautiful country. More precisely, I’m 5 minutes from Germany and 5 minutes from France, so it’s all a bit international, despite the clichés mentioned above.

But I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else - smile - except in Berlin; I lived there for 5 years, but everything was different in Spandau. That was a long time ago, though. I probably wouldn’t like it there much anymore today.

I live in Oberentfelden, the underrated center of Switzerland. It’s about an hour’s drive to Basel, Bern, Zurich, and Lucerne...

I’m from Swabia. I’m more or less at home on the edge of the Swabian Jura.

I’m from Austria :-)

More specifically, I live in Lower Austria, south of Vienna, on the border with Styria... a beautiful place to live. Lots of forests, the Wechsel Mountains, the Schneeberg, and more right on my doorstep :-)

I live in Husum by the beautiful North Sea :)

I also live in Swabia and love it, but my home is the Ruhr region, and it always will be.

I live in Polling, which is right in the middle between Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
So it’s not far to go shopping or hiking.

I live waaaay down in the south of Germany, on the edge of the Black Forest, just near the Swiss border! It’s a wonderful little corner of the world here in the tri-border area, right next to Switzerland and Alsace!

I’m also from the beautiful Black Forest, just not quite that close to the border :) 

I live in the suburbs of the most beautiful city in the world...
Hamburg. It’s green and rural here, but Hamburg isn’t far away. 

You’re mistaken, Arni! I live in the commuter belt of the most beautiful big city in the world—which is, of course, Munich!

I live in Bad Wörishofen. It’s located along the Munich–Lindau highway. The mountains and lakes here in Bavaria aren’t far away either.

Ruthk: We’ve got the Elbe, we’ve (finally) got the Elbphilharmonie (the view from there is amazing), we’ve got HSV (just kidding), and what have you got????? :-)

It was supposed to say “something.” It’s already late, and my phone rarely does what it’s supposed to anyway :-)

I live right on Lake Hallwil in Aesch, Canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, and have a view of the Alps! What more could you ask for??

@Arni: No question, we have the Isar, the Alps, the lakes, Oktoberfest, the English Garden, FC Bayern, and so much more...
The only thing we're missing is the sea, but you can get there in half a day too.
But the main thing is that you're happy and content where you live!

I live in Reichshof, which is in the Oberberg region. It’s all nice and green and rural—and when I start longing for the city (I’m originally from the Ruhr region), I can be in Cologne in a good half hour ;-)

@ruthk: Exactly! It’s been a few years since I was in Munich. It’s different, but also beautiful!
And here’s a little tip: take a city break to Hamburg—it’s worth it! I’m happy to share tips.

@Arni: I’ve been to Hamburg a few times. I really liked it there. I think that when a city is by the water, it just has a certain charm! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that living in Munich and Hamburg is the most expensive...

Dear Otterthaler Häkelmaus, it’s as if you were describing my neighborhood. Maybe that’s because I’m from the neighboring district!
Well, I live in Bad Fischau-Brunn, and I can see the Schneeberg from my house, too. And the Hohe Wand and the whole beautiful Leitha Mountains.

I was born in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, lived in Saxony-Anhalt for a while, and now I feel at home here in beautiful Norway (near Oslo), with its fascinating nature, fjords, and waterfalls. The forest is right outside my front door. The air here is so clear, and this dry cold is more bearable.
But of course, I’m always happy when we visit Germany and the whole family—including the kids—is together again.

@Ruthk that's why I live in Schleswig-Holstein too. But it's 4 km to the city limits and 16 km to the city center. But much more affordable. 
And it's probably similar for you, since you also live in the commuter belt. :-)

I’m a true Frisian—I was born in Jever (where Jever Pils comes from). But I don’t even like beer.
I’ve been living in Schortens for over 11 years, which is located between Wilhelmshaven and Jever.

I live near Pforzheim, the gateway to the Black Forest (Baden-Württemberg). Pforzheim is also called the “City of Gold” because a lot of jewelry is made here.
Our landscape is hilly, which looks especially beautiful when the rapeseed flowers are in bloom. We have forests and meadows, and it’s not far to Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. Unfortunately, we don’t have any bodies of water here—though I’m sure I’d really enjoy living by a large lake or the ocean.

I’m from Bernau on the “Bavarian Sea”—that is, Lake Chiemsee—about 80 km from Munich. So we have both water and mountains :-) right on the border with the Austrian Tyrol. Salzburg isn’t far either. It’s always wonderful to be able to live and work here, where others (want to) go on vacation.

I live in the Ruhr region 

I live in North Rhine-Westphalia, more specifically in Dortmund—(Alt) Scharnhorst, where there are still many old houses. The area used to be very rural—and I don’t mean that in a negative way.
Neu-Scharnhorst was developed in the late ’60s and early ’70s as a large prefabricated housing estate. There were many problems back then. Today, our entire neighborhood is a great place to live.

Not me — I live where your dots are … 10 km from Flensburg, 5 km from the Baltic Sea. I never want to move away from here.

I’m from the Eifel region: Euskirchen. It’s not far from Bonn and Cologne. We still have plenty of green space here, but everything you need is nearby.

So, now a little about me: I’m from beautiful Saxony (eastern Germany isn’t very well represented here—or so it seems). To be more specific, I live in the wonderful Vorerzgebirge region, very close to the Sachsenring. Especially during the Christmas season, it’s probably one of the most beautiful places in the world.
(But I’m sure everyone says that about their own home ;)

I’m a “Hallore”! That means I’m from Halle an der Saale and was born here, too. The delicious Hallorenkugeln come from Halle. The chocolate factory is well worth a visit. Halle is near Leipzig, if that’s more familiar to you!

I’ve been living for 15 years in a charming village on the beautiful Lower Rhine in the district of Kleve. However, I was born and raised in the heart of the Ruhr region (Duisburg).  

I live near Heidelberg; the area doesn’t have much to offer, except maybe Boris Becker—but he doesn’t live here anymore. Well, not exactly a highlight either......

My first post on this topic was very short, but now I’d like to write more about it.
So, I really enjoy living in Karlsruhe—I actually chose this city specifically as my home—but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s the most beautiful city in the world. Karlsruhe has a great tram network—since I don’t drive, I really appreciate that. In addition, our municipal utilities claim that Karlsruhe’s tap water is particularly clean, and since I like to drink tap water, that suits me just fine.
Karlsruhe was built 300 years ago in the middle of a forest, and some of that forest still remains on the outskirts of the city—for me, the forest begins right behind my house. I find that lovely during the day: In the summer, you can open the windows wide in the morning and enjoy the silence. At night, though, nocturnal animals are on the prowl, and their prey sometimes screams horribly—which isn’t so nice anymore.
Right now, a subway is being built in Karlsruhe—actually, it’s been under construction for six years now—so you constantly have to get used to new routes, which is a pain, and there’s still no end in sight.

I also live right next to the forest. Although all my windows face the street, it runs right through the city forest.
In the summer, I often leave my window open all night—the street noise doesn’t bother me much, since I grew up at a busy intersection.
In the summer, I often hear nightingales and owls, but also the hoarse barking of badgers.

no, I can't sleep with the window open — all my windows face the forest, and the noises you hear there at night are really frightening.
About 10 years ago, when it snowed heavily in winter, a family of deer would always come up to the house. You could watch them for quite a while, but they don't come anymore. I once saw a fox too. And this summer, I had a bat visit my apartment. So even up here on the seventh floor, I get quite a lot of nature.
But I don't really know much about what makes which sounds — where I come from, there was hardly any nature, so I never learned. The only ones I can definitely tell apart are sparrows and pigeons, and that's about it :-).

I live between Hanover and Bremen, right on the Weser River. 
It’s very beautiful and quiet here.

It’s mainly known for its good wine and, of course, our great wool *hihihi*

We live in the city with the “world’s largest marksmen’s festival” … for those who don’t know, that’s Neuss (right next to Düsseldorf).
Soon we’ll be living in a lovely place in the Rhine district of Neuss, but no longer in the city of Neuss itself.

I’m from the Rhineland and have been living in Ellingstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, for two years.

Almost near me (Ellingstedt). I also really like it in the not-so-gray city by the sea.

I’m originally from near the Spreewald, but I’ve been living in the Black Forest for 16.5 years, about 17 km from the Swiss border.

I’m from Altenburg, the “Skat city” in Thuringia. It’s located right between Leipzig and Chemnitz.

I currently live in Kolbermoor in Upper Bavaria. It’s pretty much halfway between Salzburg and Munich.
But my heart is in Bernau am Chiemsee, where I spent the first 21 years of my life and where my family still lives.
