Yarn Requirements

Hi, I’d like to knit a blanket using size 3.5 needles in a seed stitch or small check pattern, about 1.70 m x 1.20 m. How much yarn do you think I’ll need for this? Thank you very much

Dear Cornelia, you can easily calculate this yourself: Knit a gauge swatch, let’s say 20 x 20 cm. Then weigh the gauge swatch. Let’s assume it weighs 20 g. And let’s assume your blanket will measure 170 x 120 cm.
20 x 20 cm = 400 square cm
170 x 120 cm = 20,400 square cm
Now let’s use good old-fashioned rule of three:
20 g ÷ 400 × 20,400 = 1,020 g
Now all you have to do is knit the gauge swatch, plug in your numbers, and you’ll know exactly how much yarn you’ll need! Anything else would be wild speculation ;-)
