Holiday on Thursday, May 14, 2026: Ascension Day / Father’s Day / Ice Saints

It’s sure to be very cozy everywhere in the Cologne area—the weather is perfect for indoor plans and rich farmers. How did that saying go about May being cool and wet?
I went out with some friends yesterday, I’m going out for brunch on Sunday, and in between, I’ll be staying home and working on my knitting and crocheting.

Have a great long weekend, everyone. The forecast here is for cold and wet weather. I’m going to visit a friend. She’s a dairy farmer, so no matter the weather, she has to go to the barn in the morning and evening.

When the weather’s nice, the cows are happy.



Otherwise, I’ll use the weekend to crochet a little basket for our newly redesigned bathroom.

It’s cold here—7°—and pretty windy, and it looks like rain. We’re going to take a quick morning walk in the castle park while it’s still somewhat dry.
Tomorrow we’re heading back to the thermal baths here in Badenweiler, and on Saturday we’re driving back home—I’m looking forward to that, too.

No chance of a walk—it’s pouring down right now. ☔️

Heute Regentag ideal um es sich auf dem Sofa bequem zu machen mit Kaffee/Tee und dabei Handarbeiten oder Lesen.

It’s chilly, windy, cool, and unpleasant outside here, too. Good thing we can all keep ourselves busy indoors. Today I made 12 bottles (250 ml each) of rhubarb-raspberry syrup. It tastes so delicious and refreshing in the summer as a spritzer or mixed with sparkling wine. And since it’s rhubarb season now, you’ve got to make the most of it.

This afternoon, I’m heading to my sewing room. I’ll sort through my fabrics and keep experimenting with my sewing project. Add a nice audiobook to listen to—perfect.
