Beginner was given yarn as a gift…

Hi everyone,

I’m an advanced beginner... I’ve already successfully crocheted a few things.
However, I can’t estimate the amount of yarn... 20 skeins of 50 g each (75 m) and dark gray. I wear size 48/50 because of my bust size.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I could crochet with it?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Katjes

Actually, it always depends a bit on the pattern…
a tightly crocheted or knitted pattern requires more yarn…
a loose pattern, of course, requires less…
To get a rough idea, you could try placing a woolen garment you already own on a scale…

What’s the yarn composition?

Hi Froschoma_Mona,
it’s 100% cotton.

Oh, 100% cotton—I wouldn’t crochet anything to wear for myself with that.
In my experience, 100% cotton results in a very baggy and heavy finish.

Maybe you could crochet a large amigurumi with it. Since it’s gray, a donkey or an elephant would be a good choice.
A large mouse would also work, or even several of them.

Or you could crochet pot holders. Your yarn is ideal for that.
That way, you can start making Christmas gifts right now.
Maybe add a border in a different color, and the pot holders won’t look so plain.

Does anyone else have experience with 100% cotton when it comes to clothing?

I wouldn’t necessarily make clothes out of it either—it’s too heavy and too loose-knit. Maybe dish towels or guest towels. A tablecloth or something similar.

My friend is also a beginner and has crocheted lots of granny squares using similar yarn and made various things out of them, like a bag. Thick cotton yarn is perfect for that. Maybe you could crochet a vest out of granny squares.

Have fun, and kind regards
Sonja
