Understanding the DS Value on Crazypatterns — explained simply

We'd like to briefly explain what the DS value actually means, since the label "Sales per day" can easily be misread.

What the DS value is NOT:
The DS value is not simply "sales divided by calendar days since release."

Example: A pattern has been online for only a few days and already has many sales. The plain daily average will look very high — yet the DS value may still come out lower. That's not a counting error; it's intentional: the DS value is deliberately smoothed.

What the DS value IS:
A stable sales-performance metric. In simple terms:
"Sales in the relevant period / active days, with additional smoothing and stabilization"
It doesn't just count calendar days — it also factors in whether a product was actually visible and active during that period.

Why the smoothing?
A plain average would be too erratic for rankings, visibility, and ad tiers. The DS value is designed to:
- highlight strong sales performance
- reduce random fluctuations
- make new and older products more fairly comparable
- give less weight to short-term spikes and manipulation

In short, it answers:
"How consistently and comparably does this product sell, relative to its active visibility?"
