State-wide Warning Day in Bavaria on March 12 / Test alert

Dear Community,
Bavaria will once again hold its statewide warning day on March 12. Starting at 11 a.m., alerts will be issued via sirens, loudspeaker trucks, etc., as well as directly to cell phones via cell broadcast. The all-clear will follow at 11:30 a.m.

The nationwide warning day will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

You know how it works: The goal is to ensure that everyone can be reached. Any embarrassment or failure on Warning Day can be used as a learning opportunity to make the entire warning system more reliable.

What’s the situation with Warning Day in your (federal) states?
 

Things are always pretty low-key here, and actually, everything always works out. It’s like with insurance—you just hope you’ll never need it.

It’s always very exciting to see whether the cell phones go off or stay silent ;-) :-))) But usually, as Veronila writes, it’s relatively uneventful

Here in Baden-Württemberg, it’s actually always gone smoothly, as far as I can tell. Last time, though, I was a little surprised—sirens had been installed in our little village, and I somehow hadn’t quite noticed. 😂

Were you properly warned?

It just slipped right by us—my cell phone only had a silent red alert button, and after about 30 minutes, a silent all-clear. Since we had the windows closed, I didn’t even hear the sirens; my husband said they were wailing, but since I have about 30% hearing loss, I didn’t hear them. It does have its advantages that I don’t hear so well anymore ;-) but I have an appointment with my ENT in April to get a hearing aid.

Based on the headline, I had thought the Warning Day would only take place in Bavaria. However, the warnings were loud and clear here in North Rhine-Westphalia as well, so it worked.
