Happy weekend / meteorological start of spring

Cologne is really enjoying some great spring weather—it’s heavenly. I’m already able to sit out on the balcony and crochet there. The only thing that’s been put aside for now is my knitting project—that super-thick, fluffy sweater—because I just don’t feel like working on it at all right now. Oh well, the next winter is sure to come, and it’ll definitely be finished by then.

We’ve had absolutely fantastic weather for the past two days and have kicked off our days in the garden. We’ve already had lunch outside, and I sat in the sun reading.

It all happened so quickly. Instead of keeping the turtles nice and warm in the greenhouse so they don’t freeze to death, I now have to make sure the sun doesn’t heat things up so much that they wake up from hibernation too soon.

The birds are enjoying the weather. They’re singing their hearts out, and they’re eagerly inspecting the birdhouses to see if they’re suitable for raising their young.

We’ll definitely be enjoying these days out in nature.

Yesterday was the first time this year I went out without a jacket.

Spring is off to a somewhat slow start for me. Last weekend, I scalded my leg with hot tea and had to go to the emergency room. Now my leg is heavily bandaged, and I have to go in every three days to have the bandage changed. It’s a test of patience. At least I have plenty of beautiful yarn and can knit! 

Everyone in our family wants hand-knitted socks right now—both the adults and the kids. The grandchildren got to pick the colors. My 7 1/2-year-old grandson specifically chose two different colors. He wants one sock in color 1 and one sock in color 2. And those two different socks then make a pair that you wear together. That’s the trend these days.

Oh no, Ina—hope your leg gets better soon; burns from hot water are really painful.
Wishing everyone here a wonderful weekend, too—mine’s going to be great :-) My grandson invited me to dinner—he’s turning 30 today and said, “We’re going out to eat tomorrow, Grandma—you’re coming with us, and Grandpa too, if he wants to :-)” I think that’s so sweet of him.

Thank you both for your concern. I was actually glad the tea spilled in my direction. My little grandchildren were sitting at the table with us. But everything will be all right again. Nothing stays the same.

Enjoy this beautiful Sunday, everyone. I just sat out in the sun for a bit—with my leg up—and knitted some colorful size 25 socks. Spring is coming!
