Knitting kit from Aldi: Strange note in the pattern—any thoughts?

Hello, fellow craft enthusiasts,
Through a series of twists and turns, I ended up with a knitting kit from Aldi that includes the materials and the pattern for making a turtle. The person who bought the kit couldn’t make sense of the pattern. 
I figured I could work on the individual parts of the turtle during car rides (when I’m the passenger). The shell and the belly are each made up of sc circles that gradually increase in size.
Now, on the 18th round (= final round) of the shell, I’ve come across two abbreviations (FV and FW) that aren’t explained anywhere. I just can’t seem to figure out what they might mean. These abbreviations also appear at this point in the French and Slovenian pattern, but not in the Italian and Hungarian ones. ;-)

Here’s the full sentence: “Round 18: Crochet only into the front loops (FV, FW) and repeat until the end (increase 3 stitches, repeat 42 times).”

The three rounds prior each consisted of 84 stitches. So I crocheted the 18th round as follows: 1 sc / 3 sc (repeated continuously)—all into the front loops. This results in 42 repeats (as specified). But maybe it would be more logical to crochet 1 sc / 4 sc (to increase by 3 sts each time). Or something else entirely? In the photo, the final round of the shell looks a bit ruffled. 
Maybe the abbreviation and its meaning are important? Hmm.
