Dear community,
if you want to crochet a C2C blanket, what should you keep in mind?
Are there any tips on this topic?
A customer asked me about it via PM, so I’m opening this thread here.

Oh, I actually have something on this in my downloads too—I’m really curious to see what comes up. And then I’ll give it a try myself!

It’s important to make sure you’re crocheting in the right direction.

Hello @ all, and a healthy New Year 🙃 I think I’m the reason for this thread 🤣 But I have the following problem:

I’m currently working on a C2C blanket and have now reached the middle section. In this middle section, the number of squares per row is always the same. However, I can’t get any further because I don’t know exactly how the end of the row is done in order to get the height. I’m really afraid of “messing up” the blanket because of a silly (thinking) mistake.

Can anyone here maybe help me and explain the middle section to me in a way that makes sense? I would be endlessly grateful. Attached is a picture of the project, but it’s already a few weeks old and has grown since then.

Best wishes and have a great start to 2026, your Alexandra

Good morning, Alexandra.
Unfortunately, I don’t quite understand your question. Could you show us a picture of exactly where you are in the process?

Which end are you referring to?

Hi Petra,
I don’t know how else to explain it. I’ll give it a try:

I’m now at the point where I have to crochet 30 rows, each with 80 squares (i.e., to build up height) before I start decreasing toward the end.

My mind is now stuck on this problem: How do I gain height if I always have the same number of squares? What I’ve read online so far (it’s not really explained in the pattern I’m using) doesn’t quite make sense to me—because it just calls for slip stitches all the way to the edge instead of adding one more square. But then won’t I be missing height?!?!?!?! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

I’ve now looked for another pattern for a C2C blanket where this part is explained. I’m going to try it out on a test piece. Maybe that’ll clear things up in my head. If not, I’ll send another picture showing the problem.

Thanks for the reply, and maybe for any future replies too 🙃🙈🙏

Hi there.
So you’ve reached the point where you’ve achieved the desired width.
Up to this point, you’ve increased by 1 square in every row—which has given you both more width and more height.
Now it depends on where your hook is in your crochet piece—are you at the point where you shouldn’t increase the width anymore, or are you at the point where you want to continue increasing the height?
If you’re on the side where you still need to gain height, continue as usual until the end of the next side, without crocheting the last square.
If you’re at the end where you’ve reached the desired width, you’ll need to work slip stitches along the last square and then start the next square above it. It’s not that easy to explain in writing… have you looked for a crochet chart yet?

Hi there 🙃
Yeah, putting it into words is my problem too (plus the knot in my head). I took some pictures. Pictures 1 and 2 are my project, and pictures 3 and 4 are the pattern for it. There isn’t any further explanation in the pattern itself.

I think my attempt to crochet row 81 failed right at the turn, even though it worked out until the end of the row. And then, for row 82, my wits deserted me… and the mental knots set in. 🙈

Even with the other pattern I mentioned, I think I’m just too clueless. I quickly crocheted a swatch, but I just can’t seem to get past the last square in the row… how am I supposed to finish this now? (In the row before, as shown in the picture on the left, I crocheted slip stitches, finished the row normally, then turned and worked back normally. And now I’m stuck on this finishing step before I turn again.... Is it really possible to be this clueless?????

@Alexa,
You’re not allowed to upload images here that don’t belong to you, including excerpts from patterns. I therefore had to remove them.

What’s stopping you from asking the author of your pattern for help directly?

For that colorful section, you’ve already crocheted one square too many. Unravel that part and then crochet with slip stitches along the last square.

Okay, sorry—I didn’t think to include that excerpt from the pattern.

Okay, I’ll give that a try tomorrow. And then I’ll turn the whole thing and continue as usual with a square? Thanks for your help....
