Material Usage 2025, Finished Projects + Existing UFOs

Dear community,
how much material / yarn / fabric / craft cardstock, etc. have you used this year? How many finished projects did you end up with? Do you still have a lot of UFOs? Unraveling also counts as completing a project.

Feel free to upload your own pictures.

Since my factory outlet closed at the beginning of the year, I went shopping again = 2,950 grams of yarn

I only knitted and crocheted 514 grams + about 300 grams for a triangular shawl and a loop scarf, but those aren’t quite finished yet.

I didn’t do much knitting, but I did a lot of sewing.

I also started a whole bunch of new UFOs, and some of them are finished. I also unraveled quite a bit.

But that’s fine, because now I still have a few projects ahead of me for the coming year, and I won’t get bored.

My last projects this week were sewing two gift bags today, then finishing a pair of felt shoes as a Christmas gift, and for myself, I made a new dress for my cookie jar—breathing new life into old fabrics.

I didn’t keep track of what I bought or how much I used. But at the end of the year, I’ll be able to say how many individual pieces there were, because I stuck with Inge’s idea of putting 2 euros in the piggy bank for every finished piece. I still have two projects on my needles that might get finished this year, and then I’ll take a look.

This year:
Knitted: not enough.
Crocheted: the occasional crochet chain stitch for a knitting project. I’m actually pretty good at crocheting, but I don’t particularly like the result because it ends up thicker and heavier than knitted items.
  Unraveled: nothing.
Yarn bought: too much.
Currently in progress: gloves and a hat with pretty complicated patterns, so it’ll take a while yet.
Happy holidays and a Happy New Year to all of you.

I’ve definitely used quite a few meters of fabric, but I haven’t measured it or kept track of it. It’s the same with the yarn—there were quite a few scraps in my box, and I added a few new skeins here and there, but as usual, I haven’t the faintest idea :-))
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas!

Love, Inge

I hadn’t heard of Inge’s idea before. I think it’s great and will put it into practice right away. I wasn’t able to start my crafting this year until late fall. But once I did, I really got into it. I sewed cherry pit pillows and double-pointed needle holders for a charity. On the personal front, I crocheted decorative pumpkins, sewed a belt for heat pads, and made gift bags. That really adds up to quite a bit.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year.

I bought 2,100 grams of yarn, some of which I’ve used up.

I’ve done quite a bit of knitting and crocheting,
including using up some old yarn.

I’ve also unraveled some projects.

Now I’m working on a knitted scarf.

Since I only have the shawl left on my needles—and that’ll be finished by Wednesday—I can already take a peek inside my piggy bank. There’s 156 euros in there, so I’ve finished 78 projects.
I wouldn’t have thought it was that much; I was expecting significantly fewer. I think it’s a nice overview—I’ll do this again next year—and I’ll go ahead and spend the money from the piggy bank next week while I’m out shopping; I really need some warm shoes again.

That’s really a great idea, and it adds up to a nice little sum in the end. For me, there’s a good chance I’d invest it in something new for my hobby rather than new shoes.

Right now, I’m dreaming of a new pair of scissors that cut wavy lines instead of zigzags. I’ll keep an eye out for them while shopping in the new year.

Have a wonderful last day of 2025, everyone, and have a great start to 2026!
