 Fair Isle Socks
My daughter asked me for socks for her birthday, and since I’d always wanted to try knitting Fair Isle, I made her some using this technique.

I dyed the colorful yarn myself, and I had some blue yarn in my stash that didn’t have a label.

I knitted these Film Reel Socks based on just a single photo. The colorful yarn was hand-dyed by me; the white and black were leftover yarns from my stash.

Warming Insoles

A good friend and colleague of mine always suffered from cold feet at the office. She didn’t want to wear thick socks with her office shoes because of how they looked. So I came up with something very special for her.

I bought a pair of standard soft insoles in her size and simply knitted them with sock yarn.

These soft, warming insoles are inserted into the shoe just like regular insoles. You can’t see anything from the outside. But from the inside or bottom, they invisibly warm the sole of the foot—and thus the entire foot. They provide warmth thanks to the wool content and offer a soft feel.

If needed, you can wash them completely in the washing machine.
She was very happy with this personalized and practical gift.

Money holder, Christmas gifts for my former dance group leader
The group collected money, and I created some attractive packaging.

This allowed me to combine the group gift with my own personal one.

A Dresser Made from Matchboxes

All little girls have a thousand little trinkets they want to keep—and my granddaughter Bella is no exception. And since her drawer was always a big mess and her rings kept getting tangled up with her necklaces, I made her a little dresser out of large matchboxes for Christmas.

I painted the 24 boxes (a special 4-pack deal at Aldi), decorated them and added glitter, and added a “knob” (= brass fasteners). Then I stacked them and taped them together with double-sided tape. I added a layer of woodchip wallpaper all around and a piece of sturdy cardboard at the bottom (which I also painted).

Now Bella’s treasures have a beautiful and unique home :-)

Little Cuddly Bears
My two kids really wanted little cuddly bears. So I crocheted these two colorful buddies for them with a few doll joints in the head, arms, and legs.

The mice are so cute. Do they have a pattern for this on CP? A dancing mouse would be perfect for my granddaughter.

This Advent season, I’m giving snowman tea lights and a small jar of Christmas jam to the people who are important to me but aren’t part of my family.
I’m also adding a few snowmen. I’m using mercerized cotton (LL 50g/100 m) and the slightly larger tea lights.
The pattern is by Stephanie https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/items/84515/teelichthalter-schneemann-haekelanleitung

At 70 cm in diameter, this gift isn’t exactly small, but it’s very personal.
I crocheted the Tree of Life for the team at my oncology practice, who have been supporting me with great expertise and empathy for the past 3 years. I’ll also be including my Christmas jam and homemade Christmas stollen.

Pattern: from 2 PIR Crochet by Lara, 3-strand gradient yarn, and a size 2.5 crochet hook.
Time: 8 evenings

Theme: Christmas decoration
When I asked my dear colleague if she had a birthday wish I could grant, she replied, “I always love your creative ideas.” -  As luck would have it, I saw a picture of this pretty Christmas decoration online that very same day, and since I liked it so much—and Christmas isn’t far off—I recreated it and surprised my colleague with it on her birthday.

Motif: Baby Gargoyle
My husband saw a picture of this baby gargoyle on Facebook and fell in love with it right away.  Now I knew what to get him for his birthday—it wasn’t easy to crochet it in secret without him noticing, but I finally managed to sew together what felt like 1,000 pieces without him catching on. He was thrilled, and the baby gargoyle got a place of honor.

Pattern: Baby Gargoyle by Yazzies- Häkelstübchen.

I always love baking cookies during the run-up to Christmas; each of my coworkers gets her own batch just before Christmas:

and my parents and in-laws always get a whole plate:

Everyone loves them, and I’m so glad I don’t have to eat them all by myself 🤩

In our group of girlfriends, we always give each other a little something for Christmas—often something homemade!

Last year, I made these crocheted “pickle jars” as lanterns; they were a huge hit and were quick to make! You can remove the heart decoration if you like. I didn’t have any patterns… I just started crocheting 😅

For the group of friends in question, this year’s Christmas gift is socks in natural tones (they already received colorful ones a few years ago):
3 pairs are already finished—I’m still working on the last one:

Keep your fingers crossed that they’ll be just as well-received! 😅

Not a small gift, but very personal

I was looking for a wedding gift for my riding partner, who always takes such great care of my little horse. Sure, money is an option, but just money? Add some flowers, but lots of people give flowers for weddings. Then I found part of a pattern for making an orchid. The final result was very well received:

Title: Dream Orchid for a Birthday

What is it?: An amigurumi orchid in a white pot, crocheted with mercerized cotton and a size 2.5 crochet hook. The design is by erinmaycrochet.

Short story: For as long as I can remember, my mom’s favorite flower has been an orchid, so shortly before her birthday, I asked her, “If you could create an orchid in your dreams, what would it look like, and where would you put it?” She answered almost immediately: it should be yellow, and she’d keep it in an elegant white or light-colored pot. Plus, it would be placed where my mom could admire it every day. That’s why I decided to make her dream come true in a slightly different way. The result was this orchid in the colors of her dreams. :)

Theme/Title: Pack the Elf

What it is: An elf that’s also a game.

Short story: When I spent my first Christmas with my husband, we played “Pack the Donkey.” This year we’re celebrating our 10th Christmas together. To mark the occasion, I crocheted this elf and wrote up some game instructions. It’s a variation on the game “Pack the Donkey” and, fitting for the Christmas season, is called “Pack the Elf.”

Theme / Title: Surprise Guest Yoshi

What is it? Crocheted figure / Amigurumi

Short story (2–4 sentences): For his 5th birthday, our grandson asked for a Yoshi. Since it’s a licensed character, there was no pattern. We used many pictures from the internet as templates and crocheted it based on those. In the end, this little guy was the announced surprise guest.

Warmth for Little Baby Heads

Once again, I’ve knitted lots of little hats and socks for the maternity ward. We all know that newborns lose a lot of heat through their heads. Items like these are always very welcome.
There are also two sets for angel babies included. They come in different sizes, because not every newborn is the same.
A few years ago, a colleague who also works in the maternity ward asked me if I’d be interested in knitting for that ward. No question about it—of course I said yes. I’ve been doing this for many years now and donate these hats and socks to a maternity ward.
