Dear community,
Are you currently knitting some beautiful socks? Would you like to show your own photos?

Dear Josefa,
I’m sure lots of people here are knitting new, beautiful, warm socks for the winter right now.
Not me.

But when I think of socks, I always remember how I learned to knit them. It was during a health retreat. I was already 46 years old and didn’t (yet) know how to knit socks. But one afternoon at the retreat, a few ladies were knitting socks outside on a bench. And before I knew it, we’d formed a little knitting group, and they taught me how to knit socks.

I wish everyone a cozy afternoon.
Warm regards, Ina

I’m back to knitting socks after a long break.

I learned how to do it many years ago through “learning by doing” and YouTube.

Over the years, I first tried the cap heel, then the boomerang heel, and since this past weekend, I’ve been knitting the Shadow Wrap heel—also a type of boomerang heel—using a Crazy Trio instead of 5 needles. You never stop learning, and that’s a good thing.

I’m not knitting any right now, but I do from time to time, because I have cold feet and need them almost all year round. Here’s a small selection:

I’m not knitting any socks right now, but there’s been another request for some spiral socks using the double-face technique.

I like to knit regular socks toe-up.

These are the double-face spiral socks.

I only knit spiral socks because I don’t like the heel, and I’m not sure if I’d get the size right with a heel.

I tried these banana socks (also heel-less) once, but I didn’t really like how they looked on my feet.

I love knitting socks... there’s nothing more meditative!! I learned how to do it from my mom 40 years ago—the classic way, and they always fit perfectly 😇.

Here’s my current project; the first sock is almost done...

I’m not knitting any socks right now because I have a box full of them :-))). I even cleaned them out recently and threw away the ones that were no good anymore, but then I realized the box is still absolutely packed :-)
I started knitting socks about 16 years ago—first spiral socks—and then my daughter showed me how to knit the heel, since I’d completely forgotten how to do that.

Hugs, Inge

Hello to all the sock knitters out there—I’m currently working on the toe of the second sock in a pair for my daughter. She’s been wanting a very simple pair in black for a long time! Oh dear—I always refused. Who actually enjoys knitting with black yarn? But ever since I got a great reading and craft lamp a while back, it’s been going like a charm. I’m not exactly a gifted knitter, but I love knitting socks. Who could I knit something for next...?

Hi Doerte,
I also really enjoy knitting socks in all sizes, colors, and patterns, but there’s always a
little cable included. When I have leftover sock yarn, which is always the case, I simply knit
little socks and give them away as gifts or donate them to the Red Cross, so I usually don’t have any
leftover sock yarn.
Why not just give it a try? Christmas is coming soon,
you’ll see, you’ll get a smile for it.
Best regards,
Walburga

Hi Saniy Tila,
warm greetings to Lower Bavaria,
I’m also an enthusiastic sock knitter, usually in front of the TV,
so my hands have something to do :-)); I really like your pattern, because I also
really enjoy knitting little cables into my socks. Would you share the pattern with me?
Only if you’d like to; I’d be very happy. Thanks in advance.
Very warm regards
Walburga

Hi Walburga,
that’s not a real cable pattern—it’s the coffee bean pattern. I found it somewhere online a while back and have really enjoyed knitting it ever since. It looks sophisticated and is easy to knit.

Since I also like to knit while watching TV, really complicated patterns aren’t my thing! I try out a lot of different patterns, but if it’s too time-consuming or hard to remember, I won’t knit any more socks with it 😅.

Warm regards from Lower Bavaria... Claudia

Hi Claudia,

I’m a beginner, and YouTube videos have helped me a lot. I can recommend Maschenmarie and Sylvie Rasch. (I hope it’s okay for me to write that here.)
If you do want to try something different sometime.
The increase heel was recommended to me because it’s suitable for beginners.
So far, I’ve tried the boomerang heel, but it doesn’t fit me at all. I actually managed the reinforced heel-flap heel on my first try, following a video by Sylvie Rasch.
The increase heel is next on my list. I’m still trying out what I like best.

Best wishes from Hamburg.... Kate
