Crocheting Bags: Any Tips?

Do you have any tips for crocheting bags that you’d like to share here?

If you don’t want to line them with a sewn-in lining, you should use a sturdy yarn and crochet tightly—so you might want to choose a hook one size smaller to prevent the bag from stretching out over time.

Adding to Veronika’s tip, I’d suggest that it might be a good idea to crochet the bag horizontally.
That way, it won’t sag as much. The same goes for handles that aren’t lined or reinforced.
 

For me, a cotton fabric lining has become almost the most important thing—it keeps the bag from stretching out and makes it a bit sturdier. That way, it doesn’t collapse as easily, and it’s also super easy to sew in a zipper. With large bags, I find it annoying how heavy they get, at least when using cotton yarn. But a lighter yarn doesn’t hold its shape as well... That’s why I’ve started limiting myself to slightly smaller bags.
