💖 Who do you most enjoy crocheting for: your children, grandchildren, or yourself?

When I’m crocheting, I often think about my family—sometimes I make projects for the kids, sometimes for myself, and sometimes for my mom. It always makes me realize how different people’s wishes and ideas are, depending on who you’re crocheting for. 🧶✨So I’m curious:👉 Do you prefer to crochet for your children or grandchildren?👉 Or do you tend to treat yourself to something nice?👉 Which projects go over best with you? I’ll just get started:
Right now, hairbands are all the rage in our house—my daughter likes them colorful, I prefer them simple, and my mom wants one too. 🎀I can’t wait to hear your stories and ideas! 💕

I used to crochet sweaters, including ones for my mom. But when you see a size 54 sweater lying torn up in the dog’s bed, it really takes the fun out of it.😡
When I was in school, I crocheted all sorts of things for my little sisters. Then came the christening gowns for my youngest sister and my daughter. (The aunt is four months younger than the niece...) 😊
My sister-in-law got filet crochet curtains, and my daughter got knitted socks.
My kids were showered with crocheted and knitted items—which they didn’t always appreciate. For example: a bright yellow hat with cherries on it (to match the Alten Land region) 😄
Later, friends came along who needed something. I crocheted gifts, and even a birthday cake once. Then I started making figures and amigurumi. Of course, I also made blankets—for tables and for babies.
When my niece became a mother, I asked if she’d like a blanket for the crib. No, she still had the blanket I’d crocheted for her when she was born.🥰
Today I’m on my own, and now it’s my turn. I’ve knitted sweaters. I’ve crocheted and knitted blankets. I’ve crocheted pillows and…: finally, I have filet crochet curtains of my own.😁
The last big project was the wedding cake for my nephew and his wife.💕
What really sparked my collecting frenzy were elves and gnomes.😍 Not to mention my “little ones”—the dolls need something to wear, too. So there’s always something to do.

Hello Franzi,

first of all: I just googled you because I like to address people here in the forum by name. Would you like to add your name to your signature? Then anyone who wants to can address you by name in an appreciative way. That makes it feel less anonymous.

Yes, handmade projects—who do I enjoy making them for most (right now)? Of course for the grandchildren, and also for myself.

With the grandkids, I know that I'm the wish fulfiller. They often want things that only I can make exactly according to their wishes. They have their preferences for certain colors and characters. Knitted and crocheted items aren't so popular because they can't always just go in the washing machine—these days everything has to be easy-care. But sewn items work well. Sometimes we look at children's fabrics together on the PC and then come up with ideas together for what I should sew for them from it.

But I also enjoy sewing for myself. Since I started sewing 3 years ago, the fabrics and patterns have been captivating me more and more. I'm always really proud when I can wear something I've sewn myself out in public.

I only make handmade projects for others if they explicitly want them and I'm sure it will make the other person happy.

Best regards, Ina

I mostly crochet and knit for myself.
Other than that, I make decorative items for the home and practical things like dish towels, washcloths, and makeup remover pads.

During the holiday season, if we’re doing a Secret Santa exchange, the person receiving the gift also gets something handmade, if they’d like it.

I love fulfilling wishes within the family the most.

At the top of the list is our grandson. “Grandma, look—could you maybe…?”

That’s how I’ve already crocheted several characters from a picture and sewn lots of fabric bags featuring his favorite heroes.

Right now, I’m doing a lot of embroidery for myself, and I’ve also made some sewn pillows for the garden.

Since I don’t like buying “just anything” as a gift, I like to give homemade items. Dishcloths, pot covers, coasters—something small.

Special requests for shawls, hats, or scarves—when I know that the hours I need to finish them will be appreciated.

I only crochet for myself; my family doesn’t like anything homemade. Whether it’s jewelry (I started making it after my stroke in 2011) or crocheted items. I crocheted a jacket for my mom for Christmas. Later, she told me she doesn’t like that sort of thing......

@Mizi,
welcome to our forum. Here in the forum, you’re sure to find lots of people who appreciate crafts. It’s great that you’ve been able to recover after your stroke. I wish you good health.

Handicrafts are always so lovely—I knit, crochet, and do crafts. I only knit sweaters and jackets for myself; hats, shawls, and scarves sometimes get given away as gifts, and pillowcases—well, those are for me, too ;-). I’ve already crocheted and given away lots of amigurumi, including specific animals upon request.
Oh, and then there are pom-pom animals, lucky worms, and lucky bells—those always make great gifts, and with the right message attached, they’re sure to bring joy.
