Granny squares are lots of colorful pieces that you eventually piece together into one big whole. For a while, I enjoyed crocheting them in my favorite colors. The result was colorful blankets and pillows. Feel free to take a look.

Best regards, Ina

Yes, granny squares are great. You just crochet away, and in the end you get a wonderful blanket, pillows, jackets, slippers, or even a ball made from scraps.

For this blanket, the granny squares were crocheted together.

You can also make jackets out of granny squares

I’ve also tried making shoes

I crocheted this granny square when my cousin asked for a cell phone case.

And it all started with the blanket for my grandson’s birth

I even tried using knitting needles once and knitted hexagonal granny squares.

Of course, you can also go big: a blanket made from just one granny square

Wow, that’s quite a lot of different granny squares that have accumulated over the years.

Once I start with the first one, it’s like an addiction for me. I have the most fun when I get to use different colors. That keeps things interesting. Or when different colors and patterns are combined.

Oh Petra, you’re such a big Granny fan. I like the little coat rack best. What a lovely idea!

Love, Ina

Just finished this. A little bag with sunflowers.

Thanks, Ina. Yes, I really like granny squares. They are so versatile.

@Kuscheldesign - The bag turned out great.

I really like the sunflower motif. Your solution with the flap turned out well, too.

I love granny squares. But I hate sewing or crocheting them together. That’s why I only use the join-as-you-go method.

I know what you mean about sewing them together. I try to crochet directly onto the pieces as much as possible and work the yarn ends into the stitches too. That way, you’re done much faster in the end and can enjoy your creation. I haven’t sewn anything onto the bag yet. I wasn’t able to crochet the flap directly onto the granny squares after all—I had to work it as a half-oval—but then I crocheted it onto the squares. I’m still thinking about whether to add a bag strap.... I’d probably have to sew that on after all.
Best regards

Crocheted bag straps tend to stretch out a lot. That doesn’t happen with Tunisian crochet.

I crocheted this granny-square skirt back in the ’70s. Back then, I had to take the train back and forth a lot. I passed the time by crocheting granny squares. I loved that skirt—it was wonderfully comfortable and nice and warm in the winter. If it hadn’t gotten lost during one of my moves, I’d probably still be wearing it today.

Well then, go for it, dear Ruth—how about doing it again? 🥰
