Handmade Wedding Dresses

Dear Community,
What do you think about handmade wedding dresses?

Sewing one yourself is definitely a lot of work, but it still ends up looking like a typical wedding dress. But I saw some crocheted wedding dresses somewhere—they were really unique, and some of them looked absolutely stunning.

I’ve actually sewn a wedding dress myself for a friend’s daughter.
It was a one-of-a-kind piece, tailored entirely to her personal preferences and measurements.

I’ve seen a pattern for a crocheted wedding dress before. I imagine that would be very time-consuming, and the yarn would have to be very thin so the dress doesn’t get toooo heavy.

I haven’t sewn a wedding dress myself yet—I’d rather leave that to my daughter; she’s better at it. We always say that when it comes to this, she’s the precision engineer and I’m the clumsy one :-)))) ;-))
She trained as a ladies’ tailor, and I trained as an industrial tailor—two different but very closely related professions. She sewed her own wedding dress and her youngest sister’s.
As for myself, I sewed my own outfit for my second wedding—it’ll be 35 years ago this May.

Years ago, I read a story about a woman in New York who crocheted her own wedding dress—on public transportation on her way to and from work—using a pineapple pattern and fine white filet crochet yarn. It looked amazing. I think the cost of materials was around 30–40 dollars. The pattern is available for purchase.
