Crocheting loop stitches

How do you crochet loop stitches?

Does anyone else have anything to add?

When I saw your question, I immediately thought of a baby cardigan my mom crocheted for my first niece back then. For that, we painted a popsicle stick so we could wrap the loops around it. That worked out really well.
  Today, I wouldn’t recommend this technique for baby clothes, since little fingers can get caught in the loops.
For little sheep like these, I think it’s a cute way to crochet their woolly fur.
However, these loop stitches do require a lot of yarn.

When I made the footed bag for my nephew, I used a piece of plastic tubing for the loops. It worked great. That was all the rage over 30 years ago, but today I’d only use it for decorative items that aren’t meant to be played with.
