Dear community,
what are you planning for your garden?

We had two gardeners come by, and they’ve gotten everything back in shape.
Just in time for spring, the star magnolia is starting to bloom.

Planting lots of vegetables and spending many relaxing hours in the garden.

Today I cut back and cleared away two more large baskets of faded fall flowers. The tomato seedlings are already 2 cm tall. I’m happy

Hi,

there’s a lot of landscaping that literally fell through last year. The brief dry spells were used for hay and similar things.

But first, it’s time for spring cleaning around the house. The “view” from the street was almost finished yesterday.

Any garden updates?

I don’t have a garden, but a balcony will surely do. I’ve already started working toward becoming self-sufficient:

The raspberry bush made it through the winter just fine and is sprouting away happily.

And the grapevine is following suit.

And the neighbors make sure I have a nice view, too!

Veronika, are you already hard at work with your seedlings? My tomatoes now have their second set of leaves and will be repotted today. Then there will be more seedlings to start.

Today I also want to fertilize the roses and start trimming the boxwood. As you can see, the garden is keeping me very busy, and my crafts are taking a back seat.

My white aubrieta has survived the winter well, and there are more flowers every day.

And tonight we’re having cheese bread topped with wild garlic from our own garden. It thrives in the garden and covers a larger area every year.

I know you’ve all been hard at work already.
We don’t have a garden ourselves, but I’ve managed to snap some photos of flowers while out and about

My photos of the seedlings and the raspberry bush will soon be historical artifacts, because the trees in the background are all being cut down right now—the neighboring lot is being developed. What a shame.

Great, Petra! That looks really good in your little vegetable kindergarten. 31 tomatoes are quite a lot. May I ask whether you have any favorite varieties among them?

I also have a favorite tomato like that. Unfortunately, I don’t know its name. In any case, it tastes the way tomatoes used to taste. The fruits are only medium-sized, but very aromatic. Since I like using it most in my kitchen, I simply named it “kitchen tomato.” I’ll have several pots of it again this year.

I’m going to try a cocktail tomato called “Black Cherry.” Let’s see whether it lives up to its promises.

Last year I tried pineapple tomatoes . Yes, they were especially large, bright orange, and very juicy. But I missed the typical tomato flavor. That’s why it won’t be back this year.

I repotted my young plants (peppers and tomatoes) at Easter. Each little plant now has its own small flowerpot and can grow roots in it. They’re all in the greenhouse and will hopefully grow big and strong.

In the next few days I’m going to sow sugar melons and large cucumbers (Fatum variety) . Two of the sugar melon plants are supposed to go into the greenhouse. Let’s see whether they feel at home there—together with the cucumbers. That way we’d have something fresh to snack on.

In our raised garden bed, where there are actually only perennials, I’d like to make room for 3 stewing cucumbers.

Well, and as for the fruit trees, things are looking good so far. Please all keep your fingers crossed that there won’t be any more frosts to freeze the blossoms.

What I can harvest in my garden right now is wild garlic (it will be made into pesto) and ground elder, butterbur, chickweed, daisies ... all of that goes into smoothies. I’ll have pictures next time. Today it’s too cold outside for me to take photos.

Have a lovely Easter Monday, everyone.

Best regards, Ina

This year I also have a new addition to try out again

I already have plenty of ground elder and dandelions in my garden. I’m harvesting the dandelions at lunchtime today—I’ll use them to make dandelion honey, use the leaves in a salad for today, and dry the rest for tea. I’ll make ground elder tincture and ointment again. I don’t really like the taste of it raw.

This year, I’ll finally be able to take part in the grape harvest. 😂
