You won’t need much yarn for this baby bonnet. Thanks to the pattern, even small scraps of solid-colored yarn can be put to good use.

But gradient yarn also works well for this project.

You can still make lots of lovely little items from sock yarn scraps. These days, sock yarn isn’t just drab and gray—it comes in many bright colors. It’s especially ideal for doll clothes because it’s not too thick and is easy to care for.

The turtleneck sweater for small dress-up dolls, approximately 30 cm tall is knitted using the RVO (top-down raglan) method, so the size can be adjusted as you go. The pattern is created directly from the skein. The pattern for the beanie is included.

You can use lots of colorful leftover sock yarn to knit these wrist warmers using the patchwork technique. Nothing is sewn together here; instead, each patch is knitted directly onto the next. The wrist warmers are ideal for anyone whose hands get cold easily while working at an office desk.

The Hippy seahorse was also made primarily from sock yarn—this time crocheted. I used sponge yarn only for the comb so that it stands up nicely. The sock yarn has a soft color gradient and is interwoven with a glittery thread. This gives the body a lovely shimmer (which, unfortunately, isn’t very visible in the photos). I used about 30 g of sock yarn for the seahorse.

Do you have any sock yarn left over for more sock-yarn patterns?

If knitted or crocheted pieces made from sock yarn are meant to keep you warm,
it’s important that this sock yarn contains wool.

There are also sock yarns without any wool content.
These are often elastic and better suited for summery pieces.

In this post, I’ll introduce you to one pattern for each of the yarns mentioned above.

My “Noriaki IV” wrist warmers from my Noriaki series are made with sock yarn that contains wool.
They are crocheted in Japan style and have a subtle pattern that shows up especially well with solid-colored yarns
.
You get 2 different versions: one with a thumb and one without.

I knitted my little socks with a rolled cuff from elastic sock yarn with bamboo content.
They have an ergonomic transition at the end of the heel.
This hugs the shape of your foot.
At this point the sock is a little narrower, but then becomes wider again.
This means your socks won’t slip down over your heel so easily.
They stay in place well, even when you wear them in shoes.

Have fun making them, Mona (Froschoma_Mona)
