Polo Shirts

What makes a polo shirt special? Can you sew one yourself?

A polo shirt has a short button placket and a collar on the front, while a regular shirt has either a crew neck or a V-neck. You can definitely sew a polo shirt yourself—it’s no big deal. For beginners, sewing in the button placket can be a bit fiddly at first, but it works out pretty well after making a few practice pieces. The button placket on a polo shirt should—or can—be made from a solid-colored jersey fabric so it stands out; in my opinion, it just looks better that way. Ultimately, aside from the button placket, it’s no more work than making a regular shirt.
