So, the first item for the children’s food bank is finished—it’s a hat, since those are always being requested and needed.

Today I made a little dragon. That cute little guy was uploaded a few days ago, so I saved it right away and sewed it today.

The dragon looks really cute. A child will surely be very happy to have it and cuddle with it.

Inge, you’re as hard-working as ever.
I’m sure you’ll collect a lot again, and you’ll make a lot of kids’ eyes light up once more.

Inge, you’re so hard-working—do you ever get any sleep?
Or do you do what I do when I can’t sleep?
I get up and do some crafts for a few hours.

Those are such lovely projects.
Where is the Kindertafel, and how does it work?

Hi Galadirel, the Kindertafel in Schweinfurt was founded in 2009, but it’s actually been around a bit longer. Just Google “Kindertafel,” and you can find out where else there are Kindertafels in Germany. Because no matter where they are, they’re always happy to receive donations.

Today I sewed two little teddy bears.

I sewed a little teddy bear like that back in school—that was actually the only thing I’ve ever sewn 🫣
It’s great that you’re so committed to the Kindertafel ☺️

It’s like baking pretzels for you, dear Inge. Your last three hats have all turned out beautifully—and they’ll be very useful when it gets colder again. I especially like the “twisted” ones.

Best regards, Ina

Thanks, Ina. These twisted hats are very easy to knit. You start by casting on 3 stitches and increase 1 stitch at the end of each row until you reach the desired head circumference, then decrease 1 stitch on both sides until you’ve reached the rectangle you want. If you’d like, you can then knit on a small band, then sew the hat together along the narrow sides. At the top, either right at the very top or—as I did with this hat—thread a strand of yarn through and pull everything together as tightly as possible, tie it securely, and cut the ends. The hat is done.

Great job, Inge! I tip my (non-existent) hat to you. You’re truly a great role model! You dedicate yourself to the Kindertafel all year round, knitting, crocheting, and sewing the most beautiful things for underprivileged children. You pour your time, energy, and materials into every single item. And you do it all for free, with perseverance, and with a smile.

Your greatest reward is surely the joy on the children’s faces when they get to pick out something from your treasures that makes their hearts happy. Mr. Labus is lucky to have you. May you continue to work hard for many years to come.

The baby socks are really cute, too. Keep up the great work! And don’t forget to take a break every now and then!

Warm regards, Ina

Thank you, Ina. When I make something for these children, the image of their eyes lighting up is my greatest reward. My father always used to say, “Remember, a child’s little hand fills up very quickly,” and that’s one of my guiding principles in this endeavor.

our busy little bee, Inge, I’m speechless at what pretty things you’ve crafted, and so many of them.
The children receiving these gifts will have such shining eyes, you wouldn’t believe it, dear Inge.
I always think campaigns like this are wonderful.
Here in our area, I haven’t heard/read anything about this yet. I’d certainly join in too.

so happy crafting to everyone

And once again, a pair of warm socks is finished—this time in size 33/34. But I haven’t spent this much time knitting a pair of socks since I was in school; that stupid COVID-19 infection really knocked me back more than I thought it would.

So, after a long 6 weeks, the little hat is finally done, and all the UFOs I had lying around are gone—thank goodness! I’ll just say this: the hat is knitted from scraps that were sitting in my box—I knitted them up just as they came :-)
