Stretched-out smocked elastic waistband on a skirt

Dear expert seamstresses,

I wanted to wear my tiered skirt today—the one that’s smocked around the waist—but the elastic has stretched out, and it just slipped right off my hips.
How can I fix this?
I’d appreciate any tips. 

Oh dear, Anja—the only option is to replace the smocked band; there’s no other way. Having it resmocked by hand would cost so much that you’d end up with not just one but two new skirts. But you can buy ready-made smocked bands in various widths. You’ll have to ask Aunt Google—she knows where to get them.

There are ready-made smocking elastic bands that are easy to sew on. These are wide bands, so you don’t have to sew on each thin smocking elastic piece individually.
