Schoolchildren are sure to love these cute “Dog, Cat, Mouse” pencil toppers . They’re very easy to crochet from leftover yarn and fit standard-sized pencils and colored pencils. For thicker pencils, simply crochet a few more stitches in the round for the cover.

I crocheted this kindergarten bag for my first granddaughter when she started kindergarten. She’s in school now, but she still won’t part with her bag. Thanks to the adjustable strap, it actually still fits her very well and is dearly loved.

Now I actually had to crochet one for my second granddaughter. Both of them love taking their bags on outings, because there’s always something they can pick up along the way.

You’ll need some solid crocheting experience to make this bag. It has a double bottom, which makes it very sturdy. I used recycled cotton for it, which is nice and firm.

For the start of school, you can knit small cloths featuring a chalkboard.
You can use them as napkins , as table decorations and later as a dishcloth, washcloth or small doily.
You can also knit the motif into children’s sweaters or combine several cloths to make a tablecloth, a centerpiece cloth or a table runner.

Since only knit and purl stitches are used and every row in the pattern has been written out stitch by stitch, beginners can also try their hand at these cloths.
