Hobby horsing / hobby horse riding: better than air guitar?

Dear users, dear authors,
Apparently, there’s a trend called hobby horsing, where people get together for hobby horse riding tournaments. Would that be something for you? I could imagine that this would be a great challenge for anyone who needs an alternative to playing air guitar every now and then. It’s definitely great for kids, too.

  We have lots of beautiful hobby horses in our shop , in case you’d like to give it a try. 

Okay, I can see a hobby horse being fun for kids, but for an adult, it just looks silly to me, and I think it’s best to skip it.

I can’t really picture myself doing it either, but if it’s fun for you, why not? People probably underestimate how physically demanding it is. I don’t like—and never have liked—that everything always has to turn into a competition; just for the fun of it, I’ve always done things that some people might call “inappropriate for my age,” but I don’t care. So you might just find me jumping rope or hula-hooping, or even building a snowman.

It would definitely look funny ;)

I still remember the term “Steckenpferd” as another way of saying “hobby.”
Back then, people didn’t say, “That’s his/her hobby,” but rather, “That’s his/her Steckenpferd.”

If you’re into it. I think it’s funny for kids, but for me? Nah.

I also agree with Veronika. I’m exactly the same. If I see a swing somewhere, it’s mine. I also do things that aren’t “age-appropriate.” Who cares?
We only live once, after all, so why shouldn’t we have fun with stuff like that? I’ve got a hula hoop at home, too.
I can be totally silly—pillow fights and all that.
I’d love to try those little spinning tops again—the ones with a stick and a string attached—and off we go.

It wouldn’t really be my thing either 😊 but here in the village there are two “young girls,” about 17 or 18 years old, who sometimes “ride” through the woods. It does look pretty “weird.” But if they’re having fun, at least they’re getting some exercise outside and aren’t glued to their phones all day 😁 

I’ve always wondered what the point of that is. I just think it’s silly. Just my opinion.
But if it’s fun for you, go for it. After all, there are plenty of people who wonder why I cut the fabric apart and put it back together differently 😂
