Changing Colors in Knitting / Changing Colors in Crochet

Dear users, dear authors,
when you change colors while knitting or crocheting, how do you do it? Do you have any tips?

When crocheting, I make the color change on the last stitch before the new color.

I crochet with color A—insert the hook, pick up the yarn—then I take the new color B and finish the single crochet stitch.

  When knitting, I always cross the two colors on the wrong side so that no holes form. If it’s just a few stitches, I carry color A along on the wrong side.

Writing this out, I realize I haven’t knitted with two colors in a single row in a long time.
