Figure-hugging garments: which material?

Which materials are (not) suitable for figure-hugging clothing?

Highly stretchy fabrics are definitely not suitable for figure-hugging cuts. If the fabrics are only slightly stretchy, they’re just about okay. You should also avoid large floral and graphic patterns at all costs—otherwise, you’ll look like a walking billboard. ;-) :-)If you’re already on the curvier side, you should also avoid wide horizontal stripes. Sure, some people say stripes make you look slimmer, but in this case, definitely not :-)You can also wear light-colored fabrics if the cut is right, because dark shades aren’t absolutely necessary here. What you definitely shouldn’t do is run around looking like a stuffed sausage.
“Figure-hugging” doesn’t mean skin-tight—it means close-fitting without constricting you or requiring a shoehorn to put it on and an ejection seat to take it off.

Another key factor for figure-hugging clothing is that the fabrics should be soft and flowing, but not too soft or too stiff—otherwise, the clothes can quickly look boxy and feel uncomfortable if the fabrics are too firm or stiff. Firm and stiffer fabrics are better suited for workwear than for comfortable, wearable fashion for going out, etc.
