Counting Stitches Made Easy

Dear users, dear authors,
Do you have any tips to make counting stitches easier?

My first thought was, “Well, just count them.” 😅
What exactly does that mean? Of course, you can always use stitch markers. 

That’s right—depending on the pattern and the number of stitches, the only thing that helps is stitch markers—and lots of them! :-)

Yes, I often use stitch markers to help me and place them every 10 or 20 stitches, depending on the pattern.

I “hate” them. Right now I have two in my scarf because I’m supposed to be decreasing there. Otherwise, I prefer to knit without them. I usually knit patterns without markers and only put one on the needle when I need to increase or decrease. They bother me while knitting if there are too many of them. Every 10 stitches is definitely too many for me.
I’d rather count the stitches and see how the pattern develops, and if I have a pattern that consists of 10 stitches, I can easily knit them off one after another..... 
A friend of mine was especially kind and gave me a whole bunch of stitch markers. She thought I didn’t have any because I use them so rarely. Now I’ve got probably around 100 markers lying around here 😁🥴
