What are “ysternchen”? Do you mean these *?

Because that’s used to indicate repetitions.

*1x inc* x 3 means that whatever is between the two asterisks must be crocheted 3 times—so here, you need to double a stitch 3 times. 

* xxxx means that you repeat what’s between the asterisks as many times as indicated after the asterisks.

  In Round 3, for example: * increase 1 time * x 2—then you increase the next 2 stitches (so 3 stitches were increased), then 6 half double crochets, then increase 1 stitch and repeat that 5 more times, then 6 half double crochets again, and so on.

At the end, your stitch count should match up.

  But it’s really best to write to the author; I can only guess at this.
