Dyeing Wool Yourself

Dear users, dear authors,
do you dye your own wool, or is that not your thing?

I used to do that back in the day, using onion skins and stuff. But it’s just not worth the effort (for me)—you can buy beautifully dyed wool ready-made.

I’ve done it myself before—dyed wool using the solar dyeing method. Here’s what it might look like.

I’ve never dyed wool myself. But I dyed my fabric earlier this year—with black tea. It worked great, and I really like the new color. 





That way, I was able to embroider my snowman—which wouldn’t have been visible at all on the white fabric.

I dye my own sock yarn.
I use food coloring, vinegar water, and the microwave.

If you want to give it a try: just buy an inexpensive skein of natural-colored sock yarn and use Easter egg dyes.
That’s all you need for your first attempts.

My mom does it, and I like to visit her every now and then to dye with her :) She’s already made some really great things, and I’d love to “hire” her for my shop 😂 but for her, it’s a hobby she enjoys, and I want her to keep doing it ❤️

I used to do this quite often: Here are the dyed eggs and the wool dyed with the leftover dye!

Wow, I’ve learned something new again. The wool from Bini-Katz—the colors turned out great.

Another thing to try—solar dyeing—a tip from Inge, and now with egg dyes too.
