Granny Squares actually translates as “grandmother squares” — well, I don’t take that too literally. With me, the many colorful leftover yarn scraps can also become hexagons. When you join them together, they also make beautiful, colorful new things. Just square would be boring, so I add 2 more corners and make hexagons. See for yourselves what you can crochet from these small colorful pieces.

Cushion cover “African Flowers”

We crochet lots of colorful hexagons and crochet them together. Quickly sew on some buttons, and a uniquely beautiful and colorful cushion cover in our favorite colors is finished. I like to use only 4 to 5 colors; that’s colorful enough for me.



And because I still had so much of the yarn left over and liked the color combination, I crocheted a matching blanket too:

Here I crocheted lots and lots of whole and half hexagons as well. All together, they made a blanket. Then I added a matching border around it, and a particularly beautiful and unique blanket was finished.

I have 8 different granny squares in my shop for you, all of which match in size. That way, you can choose just one granny square—for a pillow, perhaps, Granny No. 5 looks especially beautiful

You’ll need a total of about 80 g of cotton yarn, with about 35 g for the main color. You’ll crochet 13 hexagons and 2 half-hexagons and then join them together. A zipper is sewn in at the top.

This balloon cover is crocheted from individual granny squares. 

We crochet the individual granny squares, which are then sewn together. A hidden opening is worked in so the balloon can be easily replaced—since we’ll need to wash the cover.
