Dear users, dear authors,
Who among you is currently doing Tunisian crochet, or who would like to give it a try?

I don’t know if Tunisian crochet has any advantages, because I have no experience with it at all. It’s been on my to-do list for years, but I just never get around to it.

Is Afghan crochet actually the same thing?

I’ve just discovered Tunisian crochet for myself and have already finished my third shawl.
I think the texture is so wonderful; the patterns are compact and create a great look.
Different patterns look best with solid-colored yarn.
I also think it’s great that you basically only work on the right side.
It’s a perfect blend of knitting and crochet.

By the way, Afghan crochet refers to the same type of needlework.

I’m not sure if there are any advantages to Tunisian crochet. I do it every now and then for smaller projects—for example, I made a hat.

It’s just nice to switch things up and try a different technique every once in a while. But since I do it so rarely, I have to watch videos every time to refresh my memory on the different types of stitches. Because I also like to work patterns in Tunisian crochet, the basic stitch isn’t enough for me. I know the basic stitch by heart.

@Marlies, yes, Tunisian crochet and Afghan crochet are the same thing.

I discovered Tunisian crochet about 10 years ago, and it’s been my favorite crafting technique ever since. I love the look of the stitches, the textures, and the versatility.

I find crocheting very relaxing—the return pass, in particular, is pure crochet yoga. It offers room for your own creativity; you can invent your own patterns and stitches and combine them however you like. The possibilities are endless!

Dear Marlies, Tunisian crochet is also called “Afghan crochet” in the U.S. An afghan is a crocheted or knitted blanket.
