We’re not into Carnival either; we used to always be in the sunny south around this time of year. Before we moved, we lived right in the thick of things here in Cologne—not even 50 meters from the parade route and surrounded by tons of bars—it was a disaster. From Women’s Carnival Thursday through Ash Wednesday, you could barely step outside—let alone go shopping—since everything was closed.
Now, out here on the outskirts of town, we don’t notice much of Carnival; every now and then, someone in costume walks toward the bus stop to head into downtown—that’s about it.
It was my husband’s birthday on Monday; we’ll celebrate it tomorrow with the family and make up for the canceled Christmas dinner at the same time—half the group was sick back then.
I’m also cat-sitting for the neighbors’ kittens—two really cute, cuddly ones—which is a lot of fun.

That’s lovely, Veronika—show us a picture! I’d so love to have one again.
Carnival, yes—I was born in Düsseldorf and have been living up here in the north for 19 years. Tonight it’s the carnival session on WDR, and on Monday the parade—that’s all I’m “allowed” to do anymore.

We haven’t celebrated Carnival for years now—we’re just happy we can walk straight on our own two feet, so I’m certainly not going out into all that crazy Carnival chaos; with a walker, you’re just in the way anyway.

Have a wonderful and creative weekend, everyone! I just went to watch our little suburban Carnival parade. The police officers were leaning bored against their patrol cars—they had nothing to do. And that’s exactly how unspectacular I like it. There were lots of kids there.
Oh, and cats—after 33 years of owning cats, we had to let our last one go half a year ago after a stroke at the age of 19. We don’t want another one now—we’re not the youngest anymore. But I miss her very much; she’s left a void in my life.

Both of these animals are gorgeous—they look just like cats I used to have. The one on top is just like my first shelter cat.
I also had two jet-black ones; their mom was a Portuguese cat that some people had brought back from vacation. When they took her to the vet to have her spayed, the vet discovered she was already pregnant...
I’d love to have at least one again, but my husband just won’t have it.
Carnival, yes—yesterday I watched the Düsseldorf show, and of course I’ll be watching “de Zoch” tomorrow, too.

I went to Carnival today—for the first time in a long while—with our “Tanzmäuschen” dance group (senior citizens’ Carnival), where we always go dancing on Sundays.
They also awarded prizes for the three best costumes, and I even took second place and received a large box of candy; the others got a small bottle of champagne.
I hadn’t expected that at all, so it made me all the happier.

I went as “the dashing Lola.” A black dress, black glittery tights, long red satin gloves, a little red hat with black tulle, and lots of bling, plus a belt with little chains on it.

I had the early shift today (luckily, a coworker was able to switch shifts with me)—cheers, joy, and fun. It was really fun.

But now I’m tired.
