Chain Spaces

Dear users, dear authors,
What are chain spaces used for in crochet?

I crochet chain arches for crochet patterns. 

When you want to fit in lots of stitches, for example for a fan. Here I crocheted some wrist warmers.

Or for the border of a blanket. Here, too, a foundation chain was crocheted first, then continued with double crochets

You use them to skip over longer stretches (several stitches). Or to create space into which a shell (consisting of several stitches, usually double crochets) is crocheted. Or to create a lace pattern.
