Patch pockets

Dear users, dear authors,
how do the patch pockets work?

Patch pockets are pockets on coats, jackets, pants, or skirts that aren’t sewn into the garment itself but are instead attached on top.
The great thing about patch pockets is that you can get creative and use different variations however you like, depending on what suits your coat or jacket best.

Here are various types of patch pockets that I’ve sewn at one time or another.
The only jacket I still have hanging in my closet is this red checkered one; all the others are long gone.
