Today was the Schweinfurt Kindertafel Summer Festival. My daughter had sewn lots of those little pouches again, and I had sewn the
whales, teddy bears, Freebees, etc. When we arrived at the festival grounds, they were
glad we’d brought extra materials for the wheel of fortune. [Image removed] That was gone relatively quickly, too—in about 2–3 hours—and quite a few
children’s eyes were shining like little stars. By the time my daughter and I
left, there were maybe 4–5 of our sewn
items left; everything else was gone.
That makes me so happy! I can just picture the children’s eyes lighting up. With every piece you create in your quiet little room, this happiness is waiting for you. Today, many children will be happily playing or cuddling with their stuffed animal, or putting their little treasures into the little pouches. It’s also wonderful that your daughter has inherited your social commitment. The two of you make a great team and inspire each other. Nothing goes to waste. Every scrap of fabric becomes something new that delights a child’s heart.
Your dedication is truly amazing! You’re a blessing to every community and every children’s food bank.
I’m happy for you, your daughter, and the children.
I agree—Inge’s dedication (and, of course, her daughter’s) is fantastic.
But it also makes me think: We live in one of the richest countries in the world, and yet we need food banks for children. What a sad reflection on our society. In the truest sense of the word. There’s still a lot that isn’t quite right here.
