SUNRISE Transitional Sweater

Can someone please help me? I'm stuck on the first sleeve. I'm supposed to cut the yarn, then chain 72 stitches and crochet around the corner. I don't understand that. Has anyone figured this out?

Thank you so much for your help. But I still don’t get it. I think I’ll just unravel what I’ve crocheted so far and pick something completely different. I’ll send the unused yarn back.
I’ve had patterns before that you could work on as you go, but unfortunately that’s not the case with this one.
